Wisteria Lavender Lace

A lovely vine spreading above the porch at work. I can’t help but smile every time I walk around the corner and see it.

  1. Wow! That’s one vine I really miss seeing….and the smell! Beautiful. I guess they are blooming now? Our home in the Oaks of Santa Paula had a trellis over our sun porch and I loved it! My mom was so proud of it! I also miss the Jacaranda trees where I spent many childhood memories lacing the little blooms on a twig while sitting under the falling petals!

  2. What a sweet memory, Nat, of lacing the blooms. I might have to use that in a story! My neighborhood is full of jacaranda trees to enjoy, including the street on which my church sits.

  3. Beautiful, Darla! When my parents built their house, the lot was flat and bare. My mother planted every maple, ash, evergreen, Scottish pine and blue spruce herself. She planned where each needed certain light, dug each hole, watered and mulched…and everything thrived. She built stakes at one end of the house and planted wisteria, when they grew they made a glorious lavender lace arch. The people who bought their house tore out many of Mom’s plantings because they wanted a cleaner, more open appearance that required less care, but your pictures brought back the colors and visions I loved so much. Thank you.

    • How wonderful to have your mother’s artwork not only inside the house, but also around you outdoors. It’s like she was a living paintbrush, splashing her colors everywhere — her kind acts, her words of wisdom, her loving ways, her works of art, her garden. I’m glad these photos brought you those memories.

  4. Now that was beautiful beyond words our friend!! One of my favorite flowers, I have two bushes in my yard and like yourself, have one that climbs around my front porch & has taken over the house. It is a dominating plant that has to take over it’s environment. But then when the flower blooms, who can disagree that they have every right too!! This one on yours…is exquisite!! sharing this now. 😉

    • Oh, how I wish I had this vine at home. No, this photo is the vine at my workplace. The school’s main building is a 2-story house that was built in the late 1800s, and the vine hangs right outside the school library. My office is close by.
