Merry Christmas

O Holy Night

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

’Til He appeared, and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O, hear the angel voices!

O night divine, O night when Christ was born.

With humble hearts we bow in adoration

Before this Child, gift of God’s matchless love,

Sent from on high to purchase our salvation

That we might dwell with Him ever above.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,

Let all within us praise His holy name.

Jesus Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,

His power and glory evermore proclaim.

  1. You’ve struck a heart string with me here Darla as “O Holy Night” just so happens to be my very favorite Christmas Song. Especially love to hear it sung by boy’s choir. I had the joy of performing this song with guitar at a Christmas pageant for our church six years ago, though as I said, I think it’s perfect with children singing it. And what a wonderful idea to post the words. I think sometimes people get used to the traditions of songs and forget to really listen to the message. Excellent!! Merry Christmas.

    • I love the thought of hearing children sing this song. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it sung that way. I’m going to suggest this to our choir director for next year. It is such a lovely song. I sang it on Christmas Eve and the combination of the music and the words, as usual, brought me to tears.
